The study of global migration

This is an extremely interesting time in the history of communications policy and one in which there are many changes in the way lawyers intervene as representatives of private clients or working for public interest firms or government agencies. In this workshop, a small group of students are selected to work on current issues in telecommunications policy, mostly in cable television, but as the industry becomes more merged and converged, in other areas as well. Last year, students in the workshops were assigned to the New York City Department of Energy and Communications, to the New Jersey State Cable Commission and the Media Access Project in Washington. ISH more information.

The program is much like a clinic. The students have responsibility for writing memos, drafts of briefs or drafts of filings for the Federal Communications Commission. In past years, students drafted a renewal manual for cable franchises in New Jersey. Another student prepared a long memorandum on the copyright aspects of a complex regulatory problem.

Students will meet once a week to share their experiences and comment, if possible, on each other's work.

Expediting an EU residence card application

The Home Office has quietly scrapped its old policy on requesting that EU free movement applications were given priority treatment and speeded up. This allowed for applications to be prioritised on request after three months in certain circumstances. The new policy allows for no such discretion, nor does it at all recognise the legal obligation […]
