Home Office interpretation of EU case law

I just came across a new (to me, at any rate) Home Office policy document entitled European Economic Area (EEA) case law and appeals which sets out the Home Office interpretation of various key EU law cases including Steymann, Levin, Antonissen, Surinder Singh, Eind, O and S v Netherlands, McCarthy, Reyes and others. Net migration increases in 2015

According to new statistics from the ONS, (Office for National Statistics), net migration has increased significantly in the last year up to 318,000 from 209,000 from 2013. The political implications of this are important for the Conservative party which promised to reduced this number to the ‘tens of thousands’ in its election manifesto. The amount of Romanians and Bulgarians arriving during the year almost doubled to 46,000, which is their right to do so as EU citizens. The number of asylum application rose by 5%, with many refugees being forced to move from the conflict in Syria. This number is likely to increase. Migration has increased to the UK, but this does not mean that is easy to come live here. The right legal assistance can be needed to ensure a successful application for any type of British Visa.

We already have a Bill of Rights, thank you very much

The Conservative Party manifesto includes replacement of the Human Rights Act with a Bill of Rights. We already have a Bill of Rights, so the proposed Conservative version will need to be called something different. Perhaps Bill of Rights 2: The Dark Night Rises. The Bill of Rights of 1689 was one of the most […]
