Obtaining a British citizen Passport

You can be ‘British’ in many ways, but only those people who have British Citizen passports are exempted from all of the UK’s immigration requirements. Most British Citizens are ‘British’ either by descent – because they have a British Citizen mother or father, OR they have been granted a Certificate of Naturalisation or Registration. With the possession of British Citizenship comes not only the ability to vote in all elections, and to stand for Parliament, but also the duties of a Citizen – a British Citizen may be called for jury service, or, in time of war, to join the armed services. If you want to become a British Citizen by virtue of close association with Britain – usually after lengthy residence, or through ancestry – then you may need to satisfy the authorities that you are a person of good character who has paid (or reached an accommodation concerning) your UK Tax and National Insurance liabilities, that you are not a threat to the UK’s national security and that you intend to continue to live in Britain or a British Colony.
